Sarah Collyer is an accomplished singer and musician who has performed throughout Australia and also Malaysia. Holding a Bachelor of Music, with honours in jazz voice and a Master of Music Studies in jazz voice and vocal pedagogy, Sarah also runs her own voice teaching studio and performs regularly with her jazz duo, trio and originals band.
Sarah studied classical technique from the late Margaret Nickson, before exploring jazz voice with Australia’s jazz diva Katrina Ryan (E Type Jazz). At the Queensland Conservatorium, Sarah studied under the expert guidance of contemporary voice guru Irene Bartlett, jazz and gospel singer Sharny Russell and classical voice pedagogue Adele Nisbet. In 2008, Sarah travelled to London to take intensive vocal lessons with Gillyanne Kayes, author of “Singing and The Actor”.
Over the past ten years, Sarah has performed and recorded with a wide variety of
musicians throughout Australia. As well as holding jazz residencies at Melbourne’s Jet Lounge and Idibide Café Sarah also performed throughout Victoria as a member of A cappella group The Harrison Street Quartet and with this group, featured on Melbourne band Wagons’ critically acclaimed album Draw Blood. In 2007 Sarah was delighted to be a finalist in the ABC 612 Jazz Singers competition. Recently Sarah has recorded backing vocals for Aus Hip Hop artist Rob D’s Album Soul Therapy, and is gearing up for the release of her own EP of Jazz/Pop originals This Way, in mid 2009.
