12 May 09 Kidz Korner

Strawberry eatingThe Kidz Korner at the Redland Spring Festival this year has all grown up into something even better than last year’s centre of festival fun.. It could prove difficult to keep the adults out.

In 2008, the Spring Festival committee has got serious about its under 15 year patrons and are provided a fully fledged weekend program for children from 9am to 5pm all weekend. It was so successful that festival organisers have had to make Kidz Korner even bigger.

Program coordinator Patrick Burke said the venue this year is going to be totally interactive with a theatre groups, performances, workshops, educational activities, crafts, animals and super sized strawberry characters.

Highlights in the 2009 Redland Spring Festival kids programme include:
A huge sand sculpture that the boys and girls can be part of on Saturday.
Vicky’s Silly songs making singing so much fun – that you will think you are going to explode with laughter.

“It’s interactive and it’s funny. The kids love it,” Patrick said.

Puppet shows will be running at various times all weekend and we have Bodelle Davidson best known for her Postman Pat fame doing interactive children’s shows
The all time favourite activity of “Painting, Planting, Potting will be back providing children with a pot to paint and a strawberry runner to plant and take home.
The staff from Indigiscapes are putting on their creative shoes to entertain the masses – “cheer the goodies and boo the baddies” whilst educating us on recycling, water use and caring for our precious environment.

Blue Moon Drama will be running workshops for children of all ages teaching the fun aspects of drama and performance. With all of that on offer, if the kids are not smiling, we will supply face painters to ensure they leave with a smile on their face. And if the kids are lucky, they may get a visit from our gi-normous Strawberries “ Sumptuous” and “ Sensational” who will be giving away special treats”, Patrick said, “and to finish off a perfect weekend, we have belly dancing to absorb every last ounce of festival energy”

The fireworks on Saturday night will light up the skies at 7pm following the illuminating, eye catching lantern parade which will feature across the festival at 6pm.

The hardest part is that adults will have to make choices about whether they want to join in or go to some other (adult) activities on offer during the very full program,” Patrick said.
