20 May 09 Battle of the Bands

The biggest battle of the Big Bands. brass, and bass is set to kick of RedFest 2009 on Friday night 4th of September 2009. We will experience the high calibre of talented students from our Bayside school in the festival’s Jazz Tent.

In partnership with Redlands Arts Council and proudly sponsored by our local music store The Sound Shed, the Cleveland showgrounds will be filled with the sounds of those favourite Big Band standards.

This inaugural Redfest event reflects the festival’s vision to embrace, enhance and establish our young local talent along with the long standing Vocal Contest – generously sponsored each year by Redlands Sporting Club. The Vocal Contest has seen young stars such as Mirusia and Megan Washington perform at the festival and soon after go on to a successful international career on the stage.

Graham Dauth, Festival Jazz program coordinator said, I am so excited that we have a place where young people can demonstrate their musical skills and be part of a festival that will expose them to some of Australia’s best bands and musos such as Joe Camilleri and Mick Thomas.

The Big Band Showdown will offer the opportunity for a school band to take home $1000 of cash and prizes and the winning band will be offered their very own spot in the Jazz Tent program over the weekend.
